This Wednesday, 10 October 2018, marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Leinster. A series of events are taking place this week across Ireland to remember the 569 people who died in the tragedy.
Highlights of the centenary programme of events this week;
An Post is set to stage a significant display in Dún Laoghaire Post Office and is set to issue a special edition stamp to mark the centenary on the 10th October.
8th October – Jazz Tribune
A special Jazz Tribune night is taking place from 9pm – 11pm at the Dún Laoghaire Club, 3 Eblana Avenue.
9th October – Fáilte Isteach
Taking place in the Dún Laoghaire Club, 3 Eblana Avenue, Fáilte Isteach is a welcoming evening for all attending the centenary events. Guests will enjoy traditional Irish music and tickets are just €15 each.
10th October – Centenary Day
7a.m. Special wreath laying ceremony at the site of the Leinster wreck (tickets sold out)
9a.m. Main inclusive Leinster Centenary Commemoration; ecumenical service in St. Michael's Church
21st October – The Pro-Cathedral
Special mass to be celebrated by Diarmuid Martin, Archbishop of Dublin, in memory of all victims of the Leinster disaster.
The RMS Leinster Hub is also now open for visitors in the Dún Laoghaire Shopping Centre. The hub has a great selection of 1918 memorabilia for visitors to view and tickets for all the musical events taking place are also available to purchase.
